Dr. Michael Trevillion, Assistant Principal

Profile 2

Hello My Name Is...

Dr. Michael Trevillion "Dr. T."

I am so delighted to be the new Assistant Principal of our wonderful Sun Canyon Elementary School!  In the time I have been here, it is clear that our teachers, administration, and staff are unyieldingly committed to each of our students, and each other as well. We are a family and all of our children, parents, and community members are part of that family!

A little about me: I am a proud 2nd-generation Phoenix native, and I am also the dad of an amazing 19-year old college student, who is a graduate of Agua Fria High School. Patrick is my greatest accomplishment up to this point of my life and I am so proud of him! In my free time I am a professional musician and have been humbled and honored to share the stage with numerous local rock and country music greats! I also love vacationing and spending every free moment I can with my better half, Elizabeth, and sharing time with close friends and family. And, I am SO proud to be an educator!

The 2019-2020 school year marks my 22nd year in the education field. During my career I have truly lived the dream, as I have had the opportunity to serve as a teacher, administrator, coach, and professor at all levels- elementary, high school, and higher education. In 2016, I graciously forfeited the offer to continue working as a faculty member at Arizona State University to support the tremendous teacher shortage we have been experiencing in Arizona by accepting an offer to teach Jr. High math and science at a high-needs school where I subsequently served for three years. Before returning to public school service, I served for over six years in higher education including being a faculty member at Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College at Arizona State University, as well as serving as the Director of Academic Programs and Associate Professor of Educational Leadership and Teacher Preparation programs at Grand Canyon University.

What I truly missed during my years working at the university level were the children and supporting teachers and other staff members in the trenches. I began my career in 1997 teaching fourth grade and also taught Jr. High School math, science, and social studies. I then went on to serve in the Assistant Principal role for four years in the Alhambra School District and for six years as a Principal in the Washington Elementary School District. I was also a head baseball coach at Phoenix Christian H.S. for several years prior to completing my Ph.D. in Educational Administration.

I feel so fortunate to be the first person in my immediate bloodline to graduate from high school and college. I have earned degrees and/or program certificates from Capella University, Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University, and Ottawa University, yet I still feel I have so much more to learn and get excited about every learning opportunity. Prior to my university scholarship, I did much of my undergraduate studies in our Maricopa Community College system after graduating from Greenway High School in North Phoenix.

I truly appreciate the many years I have served children and adults in the education field, but I cannot remember ever being so excited as I am to have joined the Fowler and Sun Canyon family! I enjoyed meeting many of our families at our Meet the Teacher Night, and I look forward to you visiting our school soon. Please stop in to say hello when you visit, when you see me at one of our events, or when you see me supporting or serving our Fowler community! Thank you for the incredible opportunity to work with your children and family! Have an amazing year!

My best to you,

Dr. T.
